Registration for Session 1 is NOW OPEN!

Registration fee includes U.S. Figure Skating membership and materials, Sports Liability Insurance Coverage, Northfield Arena open skate punch card, parent meetings, and access to special events.  Class placement based on ability level and age. See curriculum and class placement details. Open skate punch cards distributed at lesson 1 check-in.

Power & Edge (Basic 5+ and Adults)

Build stamina and power while practicing proper edges and skating form. Includes full-ice exercises and drills important for the developing skater.

Off-Ice Strength & Stretch (Basic 4+ and Adults)

Improve strength, flexibility, body alignment, and skating-specific exercises. Master skills and build strength off ice to make your practice more effective. Bring tennis shoes & a towel or yoga mat.

Spin Class (Basic 5+ and Adults) ~ NEW

Improve your on-ice spinning form and technique with this director-led class. Held on open ice (center ice). Remember to have your open skate card punched each week!

Contract Practice Ice (All levels)

Practice your skills between lessons to improve to your full potential! Contract ice is open to all NSS levels and guest skaters. It is also the only guaranteed time to practice your skating program with music. Family discounts available.

Skaters may drop in week to week or reserve their spot in advance at a lower weekly rate. Skaters not enrolled in NSS must show proof of USFS membership or sign a liability waiver. This is a great time to try private or semi-private lessons or practice independently. Hockey skating is welcome, but no sticks or pucks allowed.

Return the current ice contract with your registration to reserve your spot. Skaters must review and agree to safety guidelines.

For additional practice, see Open Ice and Pro’s Ice schedules on the resources page or a list of outdoor practice locations.

Private Lessons (All levels)

For skaters seeking more personal attention or faster progress at any level. Offered on contract and open ice and subject to coach availability. Advanced set-up required. Hourly rates vary by instructor. Skaters taking private lessons must be enrolled in NSS group lessons. Contact Carey for additional information or to be connected with a coach to set up private lessons.

Skating Camps (All levels)

Enjoy on and off-ice specialized classes with professional instructors! There are multiple camps throughout the year that Northfield skaters can participate in, including Shattuck St. Mary camps, Rising Stars Camp in St. Paul, and the Eagan Skate School summer camp.  Many camps are open to ALL basic skills levels and are a great way to have fun and improve your skills.

Basic Skills Competitions (All levels)

Basic Skills competitions offer a FUN, introductory, competitive experience for the Basic Skills skater. Competitions are designed to promote a positive competition experience at the grassroots level. Skaters can perform skating elements as part of a compulsory program or work with a coach to put together a routine with music – or both! Competitions take place at local arenas throughout the year. Check with Carey or your coach for details.

Club Membership

For skaters ready to take the next steps in the skating “pipeline” (for example, more practice and private lesson time, U.S. Figure Skating tests and competitions), club membership is an option for you. Explore our affiliate clubs page or contact Carey for information about club membership. View U.S. Figure Skating pipeline.
