Griff Wigley of Locally Grown Northfield stopped by our Olympics Party last week to snap some photos of the event. Our Olympics Coloring Contest is still going on! Submit your entry at the Culver’s fundraiser from 4:00-8:00pm Wednesday. Winners will be posted at the arena this week.

The 2010 Winter Olympics are upon us! Beginning Friday with the Opening Ceremonies and continuing over 17 days, the excitement and glory (and 200+ hours of tv coverage) of 15 Olympic sports will finally be here. Join NSS for our OLYMPICS PJ PARTY as we celebrate the ladies freeskate final in the party room at Beef O’Brady’s on Thursday, Feb 25. Bring your PJs, because it will be a late night! Coverage runs from 7:00-11:00pm. We will raffle off Beef O’Brady’s gift certificates and a FREE PRIVATE LESSON with an NSS coach of your choice. You can also participate in our Destination Vancouver coloring contest and learn about the International Judging System used for figure skating. Raffle tickets are $4 at the rink during lessons and $5 at the door.

Staff and skaters shared the excitement of on and off-ice activities as we introduced over 80 new skaters to the rink during two field trips. Parents and Skaters, We would like to invite you to the Shattuck St. Mary’s “G2C” Mid-Winter Camp, February 27, 2010. Mid- Winter camp is designed for all levels of skating. Saturday night we will host an Olympic Party in Newhall Auditorium with two time Olympic coach Audrey Weisiger. Audrey will share her personal experiences as we watch highlights of the 2010 Olympics on our large theater screen in high definition.
Sprout Camp: For those skaters and families just getting into figure skating (Alpha and up or Basic 2 and up). The Sprout Camp will run on Saturday the 27th. This camp will give you a taste of the basics on and off the ice and include a Parent and Coach Session. This will be especially good for Parents & Coaches interested in identifying talent and what to do with it. Skaters, Parents and Coaches are welcome to join us for the Saturday night fun. Guest Coaches Audrey Weisiger, Chris Conte and Nick Perna of G2C will be the main presenters as well as SSM’s Diana Ronayne and Tom Hickey. The G2C mission is to raise the technical level of skaters. The seminar focus’s on teaching coaches and their skaters how to develop from the first steps onto the ice into a championship caliber competitor.
Thanks to all who attended our second annual Skating Night at the Depot on Tuesday! We enjoyed a fine evening of open skating at a beautiful arena, tips from our staff, and special performances from a broad guest skaters. A big thank you to Carleton College Alumni Affairs for co-hosting, and to our talented feature performers from Northfield, Stillwater, and the St Paul FSC for joining us.
