Last night, five Northfield Skating School skaters were live on the air for an hour on KYMN’s KidTalk Radio show. The skaters, Jasmine and Amber Barksdale, Vanessa and Deanna Gonzalez, and Elizabeth Penny, did a great job discussing everything from a regular day at the rink to their worst injuries to life at the Northfield Middle and High Schools and their little brothers. Carey’s mom even surprised us with a guest call from Arizona! A big thank you to KYMN, Todd and Andy Thompson and Mel, an ArtTech student, for hosting us.

On Sunday 10/18, we have a one hour practice ice from 12:15-1:15 instead of our regular group lessons. This is a great chance to practice your skills or try out a private lesson on a rare, NSS-only practice ice session! Cost is $10 per skater to cover ice time and private coaches are available. Skaters do not need to be taking a private lesson to practice. Please contact us to sign up for practice and or a private lesson!

Experience the thrill of a full-blown skating production: spinning, jumping, lights, curtains, music, and all!
“Imagine: A Figure Skating Tribute to the Beatles Era,” features 14 Northfield skaters and choreography by NSS’s Director, Carey Tinkelenberg. The show is presented by Shattuck St. Mary’s nationally recognized Skating Academy.

Thanks to all who stopped by our booth at Healthy Kids Day, gathered information, and learned some stretching and jumping techniques! Assistant Directors Liz Bonawitz and Kittel Evenson hosted our booth during Healthy Kids Day’s amazing turnout of over 1300 people.
Our arena may be closed until September, but skating is still a year-round sport! Here are some fun opportunities to improve your skills before next season:

For the second year in a row, Northfield Skating School students took the podium at the Farmington Spring Festival, an annual competition featuring skaters from the southern MN region. The event took place on Saturday March 28.
Anna Sheehan, an eighth grader at ArtTech, won second place with her Indian-style routine, and Elizabeth Penny, a sixth grader at St. Dominic Elementary School, earned first place skating to music from Harry Potter. Both young ladies take private lessons with Carey Tinkelenberg, Owner/Director of the Northfield Skating School.

Spring Skating Camp wrapped up a great season for NSS! Camp took place Saturday March 14th and Tuesday March 17 and involved skaters with a wide variety of abilities, background, and even geographic areas – skaters from Owatonna participated!
According to our campers, the biggest hits were the private lessons, exhibition, and synchronized skating workshop with guest coach Roni Maas. We finished camp with treats and a slideshow to celebrate a job well done.
Thanks to the extended Northfield ice season, we can look forward to more camps like this one in the future.

Thanks to all who attended our very first Tall and Small Day. Over 50 parents, friends, and tall and small buddies joined us for our last group lesson of the 2008-09 season. Skaters helped teach their buddies skills and we even had a mini-exhibition of each class, where coaches led their groups into center ice to demonstrate their skills. Excellent work!
