We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with the Northfield Arena to offer limited rental skates! Rental skates will help increase access to skating programs and events and give more people a chance to try skating at the Northfield Arena.
While we intend to build our skate supply as time goes on, for now we have a very limited amount (35 pairs total) and their use should be considered a last resort for lessons since there will not be enough to meet our anticipated demand. See FAQs for local skate shops and fitting information. If you have exhausted other options and would like to request rentals, please list skater’s shoe size on the registration form. Skates will be reserved first come first served based on receipt of registration and lesson payment. The director will inform you of availability upon receipt of registration. If skates are not available in your size please be prepared to purchase them in time for lessons. Rental skates are $18 per skater per NSS session (payable to the arena during Lesson 1). Skaters who do not pay for rentals during lesson 1 will lose their reservation.
We look forward to building our rental supply and are accepting skate donations for rentals! To donate skates please contact us or the Northfield Arena. Skates can be dropped off at the arena between 8am and 4pm M-F. Once the arena opens for the season (9/21) skates can be dropped off any time the arena is open.
A message from Deb Suppes, President of Tri-County FSC:
The Tri-County Figure Skating Club will host an Introduction to Synchronized Skating class in July and August. We would like to extend an invitation to you to join us! Club membership would not be required for this fun class! The class will meet on four Saturdays from 12:15-1:15 pm, July 11, 18, & 25 at Hasse Arena in Lakeville, and August 1 at Lakeville Ames Arena. Our lead instructor will be Roni Maas.
The class will be great for those new to sychronized skating and a great refresher/practice for those with some prior experience. There will be no age or skating level requirement, though forward and backward skating is helpful! I would like to get an idea of how many skaters to expect, so e-mail reponses to suppes@integra.net would be most appreciated!
The April 2008 issue of SKATING Magazine, the official publication of U.S. Figure Skating, includes a quote from Northfield Skating School Director Carey Tinkelenberg about the importance of ongoing education for skating directors. Check it out as well as Carey’s full SKATING articles on our In The News page.
ALL Northfield Arena Users are encouraged to take the short survey below to provide feedback about the 2008-09 season and support recommendations for future improvement and change. This is a great chance to show our support for year-round ice and off-ice training space!
The survey was posted by Jason Eisold, Recreation Manager for the City of Northfield and will be available until FRIDAY, MAY 1. We encourage you to take 2 minutes to help impact our future.

When: 6:30-7:45pm, Tuesday 1/6 (meeting 6:30-7:30, brief volunteer orientation to follow)
Where: Emmaus Church, 712 N Linden St. Northfield.
What: For new parents and returning parents. Directors and coaches will go over finding and fitting proper equipment, new policies and programs, Q & A, and more. We will also distribute Parent and Skater Handbooks. We feel strongly that this type of communication is important before beginning lessons with NSS and we have found that staying informed by attending the meeting contributes to skating families’ overall experience. See you there!
